Joey & Mary’s Capitol Hill Engagement Session (Mini Re-Shoot) | Washington, D.C. Wedding Photographer

Engagements

Capitol Hill engagement session in spring by a Washington, D.C. wedding photographer #dcengagementphotos #dcweddings #dcweddingphotographer

When pouring rain cuts your engagement session short, I like to offer a 30-minute mini re-shoot to give you a chance at sunny portraits. Even though Mary and Joey’s cherry blossom engagement session was a beautiful success, the rain cut short the second half. So that gave us the opportunity to have the GLOWIEST mini Capitol Hill engagement session just one week later!

We originally planned to shoot at the Library of Congress, but the prettiest side of the library was covered in full, harsh sun. Thank goodness for trusting clients, because I easily convinced them to walk just a block to the right of the Capitol for an out-of-the-box spot.

My husband knew of a little platform on the side of a Congressional office building with beautiful white marble and a view of the Capitol dome. But even as we walked up to it I wasn’t certain it was that impressive of a spot. That’s when I turned around — WOW. I started shooting right away and moving Mary and Joey into so many poses. We got so much variety just in that one place.

Aside from all that, can you guess the best part? There were photographers crawling all over the Capitol but not a single one fighting us for our unconventional spot! I would argue we had the best location on Capitol Hill, but I’ll let you be the judge 😉

After exhausting my ideas in that location, we began walking toward our cars again. But then I saw a purple blossomed tree… get this… on the SIDE OF THE ROAD. It was surrounded by ugly metal gates and construction cones. But we went for it. I caught a vision and these two were so gracious to go with it.

So once again, our unconventional spot gifted us with spring florals, stunning sunset glow, and a grand view of the Capitol building. I was in D.C. wedding photographer heaven. Now I get to share the results with you.

What do you all say? Should I just photograph these cuties every week? Not an option…? ugh… Regardless, just a few short months until their wedding day!
